Dr. Joel Clingenpeel has dedicated his career to preventing and treating illness and injury in children.

He has more than 8 years of experience as a pediatric Emergency Room physician, and has served in that capacity for the past five years at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD), a leading children’s hospital in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

As an emergency room pediatric professional, Dr. Clingenpeel sees first-hand the results of inadequate home and business childproofing which cause falls, burns, poisoning, drowning, choking and strangulation, and more.

As the father of a young family, Dr. Clingenpeel understands that keeping babies and young children safe is a full-time job. To help mothers in this endeavor, he co-founded Child Safety House Calls in 2007 to ensure they had the knowledge and correct child safety products to keep their babies and children safe.

Dr. Clingenpeel and his co-founder, Dr. James Schmidt (also a Pediatric Emergency Room physician at CHKD), felt they could slow the steady stream of babies and young children to emergency rooms around the country by freely sharing their child safety knowledge with mothers. They determined the best ways to help were: this informative Web site, media interviews, and a program to thoroughly test and sell child safety products to mothers nationwide.

On the local level where they live, the doctors established a child safety home consultation program for mothers who live in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, and throughout Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Career Overview
After completing medical school and pediatric residency, Dr. Clingenpeel completed a sub-specialty fellowship to earn board certification in pediatric emergency medicine. His passion for child advocacy led him to earn a master degree in public health, as well as co-found Child Safety House Calls. He is an accomplished clinician, educator, researcher, and child advocate, and considers fatherhood his most treasured accomplishment.
